Kung Fu Cowgirl The Musical follows a young woman from Kung Fu Village with Texas-sized ambitions. Fast as a roundhouse kick, dramatic as a spaghetti Western, and full of laughs for children and adults alike, this original Austin musical brings East-meets-West adventure to Beverly S. Sheffield Hillside Theater.

Audiences can expect infectious original music with Western twang and Eastern ripples, as funk, jazz, rap, and Broadway collide in a family-friendly showdown of kung fu, rodeo games, lasso whips, and a Chinese-versus-Texas barbecue battle royale.

Join us under the Texas stars as Kung Fu Cowgirl enters the town’s Rodeo Games to reclaim her mother’s treasure, teams up with the charming but roguish Cowboy Cody, and faces off against the dangerous teahouse empress, Madam Babel.

This free outdoor musical invites Austinites, visitors, families, and theater lovers to bring a blanket, settle onto the hillside, and experience a new multicultural musical made right here in Austin. You may leave yearning to roundhouse-kick, two-step quick, and chomp on barbecue on a stick.

All preshows and performances are free and take place at the Zilker Hillside Theater. Schedule is weather permitting.

WEATHER & GETTING THERE

Free Polo Field parking is available for all performances, weather permitting, with space for approximately 250–300 cars. Parking is first-come, first-served. If the Polo Field is closed or full, use nearby Stratford/Lou Neff parking or rideshare. Please check this page and our Instagram before leaving for any show-day weather or parking updates.

THE KUNG FU COWGIRL CODE
A few simple moves for a safe and happy hillside:
• Pets stay outside the seating area. Service animals are welcome.
• Tall-backed chairs-about dining-table height or taller
(over 2 feet)-belong at the top of the hill so everyone can see.
• Straight trom Harmony Junction, the fictional town in our show
"By Order of the Sheriff's Office!" No glass containers or smoking.
• Please leave marked donor and accessible seating for
designated guests.
• Phones silent, camera flashes off—the action belongs onstage!
• Leave no trace: pack out your trash or place it in a nearby bin.
