Kung Fu Cowgirl, founded by Zheng Xue (郑雪) Hwang, AKA "Snow," and her husband Gene Hwang, emerged from an unexpected journey that began with a U.S. lockdown. We embraced the moment, traveling cross-country before establishing our unique yoga brand in Austin, TX, where we
now offer more than a dozen after-school programs in drama and yoga. Kung Fu Cowgirl brings yoga and wellness to all ages with themes and events that blend kung fu intensity with a playful cowgirl spirit.
Currently, we are thrilled to present Light (å…‰), a heartfelt play created by Snow and inspired by her bond with her father, using traditional Chinese shadow puppetry and modern storytelling. Fresh from successful performances in China and Austin, TX, Light now comes to New York, connecting
audiences to the beauty of family bonds.

Alongside this play, we have also successfully funded our bilingual children’s book, Impossible Light, on Kickstarter!
Thanks to the support of our incredible backers, our book is becoming a reality. While the campaign has ended, you can still follow our journey, get updates, and even pre-order the book or join a future shadow puppetry workshop!
“Go hard like Kung Fu.
Yee-haw like Cowgirl!”

The Musical Kung Fu Cowgirl: Ride Between World
Xiao Xue (Kung Fu Cowgirl) has trained in kung fu all her life: strict forms, quiet strength, perfect control. But she dreams of something more—cowboy boots, a whip, and a rhythm of her own.
When she leaves her hidden village, she ends up in a Western town where speaking offbeat can get you punished. The silver ribbon, a source of power, has been taken by Madam Babel, who controls not just the town, but language itself. Xiao Xue doesn’t speak perfectly. Her whip won’t obey. Her rhythm is all wrong. But she’s determined to be heard.
Inspired by our own bicultural journeys, Kung Fu Cowgirl: Ride Between Worlds is a bilingual musical about courage, culture, and finding your voice. Told through all-new original music, martial arts, and unforgettable characters, it's a family show about standing tall and speaking out.
Enjoy the show! ~ Gene & Snow
